About Me:

Welcome!  I grew up here in Southwick and attended Powder Mill as a student MANY years ago!  I graduated STRHS and  attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst for my undergraduate degree, and Smith College in Northampton for my master's degree.  I have been teaching here at Powder Mill Middle School since March of 2000.  I started out as a seventh and eighth grade Language Arts teacher, but decided to make a switch to fifth grade for the 2008-2009 school year.  It was quite an adjustment, but I LOVE FIFTH GRADE!   We have a fun time while learning and we always have a few good laughs each day.

Reading is my passion, so I truly enjoy teaching Language Arts.  We will read many wonderful stories together including Where the Red Fern Grows and Tuck Everlasting.  In fifth grade we study American History in Social Studies which allows us to explore what makes us US!  It's great fun going back in time and truly understanding all our ancestors went through to help make this country what it is today.

Don't forget to sign up for our annual TURKEY TROT which is held on the third Tuesday in November (the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break)!  And be sure to get your Turkey Trot T-shirts, too!

Parents and students:

Students should be writing all their homework in their agenda books at the end of each class.  At the end of the day we write all the supplies  that students will need to complete their homework (books, papers, etc.) and students make a homework pile before going to their lockers to get their backpacks.  IF your child should forget something at school, the school is open daily until 4:00.

Going to tag sales?

Give us your BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS!!!
If you have them, we need them!  If you have any
gently used age appropriate books around the house that you would like to donate we'd be honored to have them in our classroom library.  We'll even write that the book was
generously donated by your child so
everyone can thank him/her!

Also, if you have extra copies of Where the Red Fern Grows, Tuck Everlasting, we'd love to have them!

Donations of tissues, hand sanitizer, paper towels and baby wipes are always appreciated.  We are trying to keep our classroom as "germ free" as possible.

We also love plants!
